The South Pasadena Fire Department staffs on a daily basis: one fire engine company; one paramedic rescue ambulance; one one-person light/air/rescue; and a command unit. The fire engine company is comprised of one fire captain; one engineer (driver/ operator); and one firefighter that respond together as a coordinated suppression team. Two state-licensed paramedics, who are crossed-trained as firefighters staff the rescue ambulance. An engineer operates the one-person light/air/rescue and one on-duty battalion chief staffs the command unit.

Members of the South Pasadena Fire Department are cross-trained to respond to situations involving swift water rescues in the Arroyo Wash, small-to-moderate technical rescue incidents, multi-causality medical incidents, and hazardous materials spills and releases. Select personnel are trained in arson/fire cause investigation, critical incident stress management, and as command officers on regional fire suppression operations.
